Summer is here and the weather is beautiful here in Oakland. We just got back from NYC where we spent a great deal of our time perusing galleries all over NY. I was so pleased that I caught the last day of my favorite painter Neo Rauch at the David Zwirner Gallery! This was most exciting as my top three inspirations are Max Beckman, Neo Rauch, and Calder (his early circus paintings)!
Our gallery is on its fourth show now. We are showing a terrific artist named Mikhael Banut. You can see pictures from the opening here.
I’m currently working on a book with a wonderful writer. You can imagine what the content is about… I’m hoping to finish the illustrations (or at least a sampling of them) soon.
I’ve decided to start a new project (as if I don’t have enough already!) painting all of the presidents. I am quite intrigued by the appearance of all these caucasian men of similar ages lined up in their presidential glory. I’ve already started Washington and I’m anxious to paint Andrew Jackson’s wild tresses, Martin Van Buren’s chops, and Rutherford B. Hayes’s luxurious beard.
