Three new paintings in oil. That’s right, I made the switch back to oils (but acrylics are not going to be completely out of the picture). Below: “Arthur’s Anticipation” is the short title for “President Garfield walks unknowingly into his grave while Mr. Chester A. Arthur thinks deeply about his future presidency in a world that is haunted by ghosts of the past and strange lusus naturae, like the Tartarian Lamb”. “The Observer” and “Note Taker on the Hill” are small satellite paintings. Just started a new piece…will post as soon as it is completed.

The fantabulous 7×7 magazine has voted Art in a Box the Best Art-Collector’s Resource in their Best of San Francisco 2010!

The best thing to happen to a box since Justin Timberlake and Andy Samberg, the Art in a Box project by Matt and Lena Reynoso of the Compound Gallery pairs art collectors with works by such Bay Area artists as Lisa Solomon, Tallulah Terryll and Ben Belknap. For a mere $50 a month, subscribers receive a surprise piece by a participating artist.

For those of you who don’t know that I, along with the famous Kerri Lee of Blankspace gallery, will be opening a store called…..wait for it……………… Professor Squirrel. Oh yeah! You can check it out at www.professorsquirrel.com and visit our brick and mortar store at the NEW Compound Gallery! Yup, we have found an amazing building and we are in the midst of moving the gallery and studios. Below are some BEFORE pics. Our grand opening is April 17th at 1167 65th Street, Oakland, CA 94608.

I’m participating in a show at Terminal 22 titled “Paper Cuts”. Opening reception February 5th. I just finished a piece for it. It’s a diorama with working miniature stage lights. The frame is real gold leaf and it features Lazarus-Joannes with his parasitic twin standing inside Ole Worm’s Cabinet of Curiosities. 9″x9″

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be participating in a group show at the wonderful Rowan Morrison in Oakland, CA! This is a chance to see the Tartarian Lamb series I’ve been working on….

The show is titled DOUBLE EXPOSURE (two): Balanced Roles is an exhibition with five bay area artist-slash-curators who work within their respective residential spaces. Participating artists are Chris McCaw of 31 Rausch, Brion Nuda Rosch of Hallway Projects, Lena Reynoso of The Compound, Kari Marboe of MG Gallery, and Naaman Rosen of WE Space. The criteria for selection of these artists incorporates the idea of the expanding role of the artist in the community, and the use of residential spaces as a place to make art more accessible. This second installment of the Double Exposure show is a further testament to this growing practice in the Bay Area.

Opening Reception is: Saturday December 5th, 7 - 10pm
Show runs December 5th – December 24th

I’ve been having a grand ol’ time working on some miniature paintings! They are only about 2″ high and sealed in resin. I have an entire “Civil War” series–filled with portraits, cannons, trains, etc. And I also finished some for my lusus naturae series. What fun! Images coming soon….
