Rutherford Birchard Hayes was our 19th President and was a Republican and a Lawyer. During his term, tobacco, liquor, and profanity almost vanished in the White House. Most of this was said to be because of his wife, who was known as “Lemonade Lucy.” Hayes won his presidency by only one electoral vote. Hayes was the first President to receive an increase in wage (from $25,000 to $50,000).
