President Thomas Jefferson was a Democratic-Republican and held office from 1801-1809. Jefferson drafted and signed the Declaration of Independence. Jefferson was a farmer and lawyer and had no formal religious affiliation. He suffered from severe back pain, headaches, and had boils on his buttocks. He also needed spectacles in order to read.
