This painting features Master Nelton the Juggler, an interesting character of his time…perhaps even a vegetarian! The Vegetarian Messenger July 1889 reads “Philadelphia, U.S.A. - The Vegetarian Society of America continues its work wth vigour. The official organ of the Society, Food, Home and Garden, reports a meeting at which the Rev. H. S. Clubb gave an address. Among the other speakers was Mr. J. H. Bradford, of Connecticut. This gentleman, who is a professional juggler, known to the public as Nelton the Juggler, afterwards gave a very entertaining exhibition of his professional skill.”
