This painting features Harry Houdini, also known as “King of Handcuffs”, and is inspired from a photograph taken of Houdini in 1920. The following description is taken from the Houdini Magical Hall of Fame:

“Positively the only conjurer in the world that escapes out of all handcuffs, leg shackles, insane belts and straitjackets, after being stripped STARK NAKED, mouth sealed up, and thoroughly searched from head to foot, proving he carries no keys, springs, wires or concealed accessories.” (See Hoaxes, Humbugs and Spectacles by Mark Sloan p. 22)
